History > Nothing but a lot of talk and a badge
The project started few years ago when 10ace and I were infamously remixing a track from the italian metal band Linea 77. Later we thought we should have worked on a studio album with our own material. After few good demos, unfortunately 10ace needed to leave due to personal reasons. I kept collecting ideas and getting in touch with many people from all over the world.
I worked massively days and nights doing an intensive creative process of sample manipulation, sound processing, laptop editing, surfing the web to source material. In fact a number of samples are taken from drifting mp3s on the net. In the meantime I was lucky to find a bunch of extraordinary artists and professionals who loved the music and believed in the project: Eraldo, Ruben, Liz and Curtis. They added a wider palette of sounds and musical possibilities to the record later called Greatest hints.
When the album was ready, I couldn’t find a proper name for it. I remembered one day I was skype talking to Eraldo and he asked me what was going to be the final decision. I looked around the room and saw a funny pin bag on the floor. so I shouted “Badge”! Connection was so bad he replied: “Blade. Cool, I like it!"
Immediately it reminded me of the good story between Eric Clapton and George Harrison when each of them had to come up with a song for that Goodbye Cream album. They were working across from each other and Harrison was writing some lyrics down. They came to the middle part so Harrison wrote “Bridge”. Clapton read it upside down and cracked up laughing—“What's badge?” he said. So the band named the song “Badge”.
And so did I.
Later many people said the album was good but it couldn't fit into their genres. Well, I decided to open a record label and called it Still Fizzy.
That's it. Here endeth the story.
Some would say it's a labour of love, some would say it ain't nothing but a lot of talk and a badge.
Whatever.
